Robert CROWDER
probable father of Bluford Azeri CROWDER
Little is known of Robert CROWDER, b ca 1778 SC or VA. It is more than likely, but not certain, that he is the father of our Bluford A. CROWDER. Robert CROWDER is said to have come from around Laurens and Spartanburg, SC. He may have married first an Unknown CHILDERS, and may have had subsequent marriages. He is found in the Giles Co TN census records from 1830 through 1860, and apparently died between 1860 and 1870. The 1860 census lists him as a 'chairmaker.' Census data for Robert Crowder, Ira Crowder, Levi Crowder.
In the 1820 Giles Co TN census there are two CROWDER families - neither of them are Robert, who it seems should have been married and on his own. They are Ira CROWDER and Levi CROWDER. Although I have no serious documentation on them, sources indicate that Ira and Levi were brothers from Spartanburg, SC; also that they may have been the son of a James CROWDER who additionally had sons named Zeptha and Hosea.
It is likely that Levi and Ira CROWDER, from Spartanburg SC are related to Robert CROWDER from Laurens/Spartanburg SC. Robert first turns up in the 1830 census in Giles Co TN.
Supporting the belief that Robert is the father of Bluford A. CROWDER, is the fact that in the 1850 Giles Co TN census, Robert's household is listed right next to the household of Spencer SMITH and wife Faithy J., a daughter of Robert CROWDER. The next household from the SMITH family is the Bluford A. CROWDER family. Bluford named one of his daughter's Faithy/Fartha. [Fartha would have been the sister nearest to Bluford's age; Bluford named one of his own daughters Fartha/Faithy.]
Robert CROWDER's three spinster daughters, Lydia, Temperance, and Kearney, variously list their birthplace as SC (1850 census) and AL (1860 census). Robert's is listed as VA (1860) and SC (1850).
